The scenes for the new Le Monde Béryl campaign were staged within the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, both in its iconic Picture Gallery - amid historic paintings by Masters, including Bruegel, Caravaggio, Rubens and Vermeer - and its more secretive, back-of-house conservation studios. Captured by Leigh Johnson, with styling by Vanessa Reid, these new images depict Anna de Rijk discovering these prized galleries at a pivotal moment in the museum’s history, as Picture Gallery director Jennifer Sliwka undertakes a major rehang of many of its rooms, reordering the collection around a new curatorial thesis so that visitors will encounter the paintings, Caravaggio chief among them, with fresh eyes. The campaign offers a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the museum, from research and restoration to curation and the handling of the pictures themselves.
